Driver Who Struck South Jersey Child Before School Turns Self In: Police

An Atlantic County man turned himself in after hitting a 9-year-old girl on her way to a Camden County school Monday, police said.

BELLMAWR, NJ — An Egg Harbor Township man turned himself in after hitting a nine-year-old girl who was crossing the street before school started Monday, police said.

The girl was walking near Ethel M. Burke Middle School in Bellmawr that morning when the driver of a white truck hit her, knocking her to the ground. Police said the girl was released from the hospital after EMS crews took her there for treatment.

Bellmawr Police said Paul Criscione, 66, recognized his vehicle on the news and turned himself in Tuesday. Police charged him with assault by auto, aggravated assault, leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, and several motor vehicle summons, a news release said.

Criscone was released pending a future court date, police said.
