Tour De Shore Comes Through Haddonfield Sunday

The 65-mile ride from Philadelphia to Atlantic City raises money for various police and children's charities.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — The 31st annual “Tour de Shore” Children’s Foundation bicycle race will be traveling through Haddonfield on Sunday, July 29, according to police.

The 65-mile ride from Philadelphia to Atlantic City raises money for various police and children's charities. The finish line is at The Showboat for the first time this year. There will also be a second start point which will begin at the FOP Lodge 56 in Berlin, NJ. Billed as the “Tour de Shore Lite”, this start point is for anyone wishing to ride 50 miles instead of 65.

“Every year, the Tour de Shore bike ride grows in increments beyond our wildest expectations”, said Patrick Liney, co-founder of the Tour de Shore Children’s Foundation. “With that said, it also meant that the Tour de Shore Children’s Foundation needed to grow with it. The single mission of the Tour de Shore Children’s Foundation is to change children’s lives. Whether it be through scholarships or recreational activities, hospital stays or being there with financial support as they go through some of the hardest moments in their life, like losing a parent, the Tour de Shore Children’s Foundation does everything it can to be there for a child in need. Thankfully, the money raised through the Tour de Shore allows us to continue to help these kids, which we hope to continue well into the future.”

In 2017, the event had 2,500 riders and raised over $1.1 million for children in the Greater Philadelphia and South Jersey area. The event — which started 31 years ago with about 20 riders now has a community of nearly 5,000 riders, volunteers, organizers and fans. The Tour de Shore“community” fundraises throughout the year, having raised over $7 million since its inception. What was once a casual ride has now become an annual “can’t miss” Delaware Valley event with teams from Montgomery, Bucks, Philadelphia, Camden and Gloucester counties, and even the Pocono Mountains.

The goal this year is to raise $1.25 million, which would be the Foundation’s impact to $8.5 million to date. The Tour de Shore Children’s Foundation is still actively seeking riders and donations to help them reach this milestone.
