Two Saint Dominic Academy students receive honors

 The Catholic Action of Mary proudly presented the Reyna De Las Flores (Queen of the Flowers) of the 35th Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo to Saint Dominic Academy, Jersey City senior Joyce De Leon.  De Leon is the daughter of Eleanor and Ambassador Mario De Leon, who is currently the Consul General of the Phillipine Consulate in New York.  De Leon is the president of the Academy’s Asian Interest Club and a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society and the Glee Club.  The 35th Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo presentation ball took place on Saturday, May 11 at the DoubleTree Hilton in Newark, New Jersey. The next day, a Mass, procession and street fair followed at St. Mary’s Church, Resurrection Parish in Jersey City.

            Saint Dominic Academy Academic Dean Mr. John Seborowski has announced that junior Lauren Healy of Union City has qualified for the President’s Volunteer Service Award presented by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.  Sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program recognizes young people across America for outstanding community service activities.   “The recipients of these awards vividly demonstrate that young people across America are making remarkable contributions to the health and vitality of their communities,” said John R. Strangfeld, chairman and CEO of Prudential Financial.

            Healy is the president of the Academy’s Dominican Youth in Action Club, vice president of Student Ambassadors and a member of the Mock Trial team.
