BOE Trustees to Discuss Moving School Elections to November
New law allows school districts the option of moving elections from April to November, tax levy vote no longer needed if within 2 percent cap.

Although it is not certain if a decision to move the annual school board election to November will be made this week, Board of Education trustees plan to continue discussion on the matter during this week’s work session meeting.
Josephine Ciocia, Board of Education president, says discussion has begun among members of the board during committee meetings but the plan is to really sit down this week and discuss whether or not they will go with the option to move the school elections to November.
A law passed this month in the Assembly gives school districts the option of moving annual school board elections from April to November as a way of saving election costs and is also expected to increase voter turnout.

Also under the new law, school budget tax levies that come within the 2 percent cap no longer have to be presented to the public for a vote.
