Borough Begins Steps in Acquiring New Garbage Truck for DPW

The borough will begin to advertise for bids for a new garbage truck for use by the .
Tuesday night, borough officials introduced an ordinance that will amend an existing ordinance which appropriates money from the borough's capital improvement fund to include an additional $85,000 towards the cost of a new truck, increasing the total appropriation to $315,000.
The amended ordinance, which was originally introduced back in 2008 when the borough first looked into purchasing a new truck for the department, also includes funding for a dump truck with salt spreader and plow for the DPW. At the time bids came in too high and the borough decided to put the purchase of new vehicles on hold.

Now, the and the need for a new vehicle has become mandatory in order for the department’s daily garbage and recycling collection to be in full operation.
Older garbage trucks, which are used for leaf collection in the fall and snow plowing in the winter, can not be fully depended on for day-to-day operations.
