Dr. James Aversa Continues to Grow His Eye Care Practice in His Hometown
This week our Down the Boulevard series takes us to Heights Eye Center.

Our regular business profile series returns this week with a visit to the Heights Eye Center where we meet with Dr. James Aversa, optometrist.
Dr. James Aversa knew there was only one place that would make the right home when it came time to open his optometry practice, the - his hometown of Hasbrouck Heights.
That was 22 years ago and today Dr. Aversa, who was born and raised in the borough, continues to grow his high-tech state-of-the art eye care practice utilizing the latest in technology to diagnose and treat eye disease.
“I always felt that Hasbrouck Heights was a great town to grow up in,” Aversa said adding that he still considers it his hometown. He and his family now reside in Wyckoff.

He has always had many ties to the town through friends and relatives. His father was an officer in the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department. Heights just was the most logical place to open his practice, Aversa said.
When he first opened Heights Eye Center in 1990 the practice was located just up the street above . His practice continued to expand and in 2002 he purchased the building on the Boulevard where the eye center is located today.

Aversa said he always wanted to go into healthcare and medicine and optometry was the right fit for him. Vision is a precious sense we all have and everyday he works to help people preserve it, he said.
His concentration is on the diagnosis and management of eye disease some of the most common being macular degeneration, dry eye disease and glaucoma.
Aversa says he is always adding more and more state-of-the art equipment which he uses in the diagnoses of these eye diseases. He is also certified in a non-surgical technique called orthocaretology which allows patients to see without glasses or contacts.
In addition to his eye care practice, the Heights Eye Center is also an optical shop. Andrea Gaffney, also a Heights resident, is the optician.
Aversa continues to be involved in the community and is a member of the Hasbrouck Heights Lions Club and the Chamber of Commerce.
to collect used eyeglasses, jewelry, hearing aids to benefit the New Eyes for the Needy, a New Jersey-based, non-profit volunteer organization whose main purpose is to provide better vision to the poor in the United States and throughout the world.
