Final Week to Arrange Informal Hearing Regarding Reassessment

Property owners can set up appointments to meet with a hearing officer on Jan. 17 and Jan. 19

Property owners in need of speaking with a representative from Appraisal Systems, Inc. to discuss their new assessment still have an opportunity to set up an informal hearing this week at Borough Hall.

Two dates remain this week of which property owners can – Tuesday, Jan. 17 and Thursday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both days. An appointment for an informal hearing must be made so the representative can ensure one’s property record card will be present for the discussion. Call 201-493-8530 between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to schedule an appointment.

Those who do not have an appointment can still stop in during these hours to view the sales sheets for properties which sold in 2011 to get a perspective of values of other properties in the borough. These sale prices are said to have served as the basis for the property reassessment, a hearing officer on site at Borough Hall stated last week.

Information can also be accessed on line via Appraisal Systems website where property owners can review the former assessed value with the new assessed value of their own home and compare it to similar homes in their neighborhood.

Property owners began receiving their newly assessed value from Appraisal Systems over the past two weeks.

Borough officials said last week that more information needs to come in from Appraisal Systems in order to . Commercial property reassessments are still due to come in by the end of the month. Discussion is planned with a representative of Appraisal Systems for the Feb. 14 work session meeting.  

Appraisal Systems, Inc. .   with some random interior inspections, officials had said. The reassessment was conducted as a way to ensure that property is valued fairly, as 2011 saw a record number of tax appeals and foreclosures.
