Food Pantry Accepting Holiday Donations, Library, Police and Fire Statistics Announced

The latest reports from some of the municipal departments

 

The Hasbrouck Heights food pantry is need of donations of holiday items as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches.

Toys and clothing will be accepted as well as food items such as canned fruit, soaps and cleaning supplies, shampoos and toiletries, powdered milk and snacks.  Donations can be brought to the Borough Clerk’s office during regular business hours.

During the month of September the pantry helped 68 residents in need, reported Councilwoman Pamela Link during the recent council meeting. The pantry is open Mondays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and is located in the lower level of the municipal building. Those in need of donations should call Robert Brady  at  201-288-4356 to register.

– Councilwoman Sonya Buckman recently presented most recent library statistics during her most recent council report.  Circulation was said to be up 4 percent for September compared to the same month in 2010 – 9,531 for October 2011 compared to 9,116 for October 2010.  So far for the year overall circulation increased by 3 percent over 2010.

– The borough’s volunteer fire department responded to 19 fire calls, 80 non-emergency and 89 EMS calls during the month of October, Councilman John Dingertopadre reported.  Recent activities included participation in Town Day where the recruiting team spoke with potential new members. Firefighters also had a fire hose simulation for youngsters at the event.

– During September there were 344 parking summonses issued, compared with 225 last September and moving violations were 94 for September up from 56 in September 2010, reported Councilman Justin DiPisa. Year to date parking violations were up to 3,044 compared to 2,283 in 2010 and moving violations are at 1,069 for this year up from 960 in 2010.
