Board of Ed Begins Search for Giarratana's Replacement

Those interested in serving on the board must contact the Board of Education office before Sept. 30.

UPDATE 11:30 p.m. – Board of Education members now seek a replacement for trustee Richard Giarratana who resigned from the board last week.

During the Wednesady night meeting, Dina Messery, business administrator, stated that those interested in serving on the board must send a letter of interest to her attention by Sept. 30. The chosen replacement will serve out the term until it expires next April.

Board of education trustee Connie Doheney stated at the meeting that it was with regret that she heard Giarratana had resigned. She said she enjoyed the time she worked with him on the board and wishes him well in whatever he does.

Giarratana had confirmed with Patch Wednesday afternoon that he resigned last week stating that “it was time” and he has personal matters he needs to attend to.

Giarratana served two terms on the board of education over the past six years. His term would have been up for re-election next April.

He served as president of the board of education until this past April when board members elected Josephine Ciocia to serve as president.
