Borough Prepares for Veteran's Day Services

Holiday garbage pick-up exception made for Election Day

There will be Veterans Day services conducted by the borough’s veterans organizations next Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park.

The community is invited to join Michael Cahill commander of the American Legion post and members of the VFW Post 4591 to recognize and pay tribute to all veterans.

Schools and most municipal offices will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 8 but residents are reminded that offices will be closed on Friday, Nov. 12 in observance of Veterans Day.

As the borough has stopped its garbage collection on holidays as a way to reduce costs, officials have made an exception for Zone 2 so that collection will be conducted next week.  It’s weekly schedule is Tuesdays and Fridays which both happen to be holidays next week.

Officials agreed last month to for that zone. Zone 2 includes the area of Lincoln Avenue up to Franklin and all streets east of Terrace Avenue.  Zone 1 is unaffected as collection falls on Monday and Thursdays.
