Officials Explore Options for Coolidge Avenue Repairs

Federal funding never materialized for the project and borough officials need to seek new options

Borough officials are working with the borough engineer to see what can be done to finally get the Coolidge Avenue road repaired – a project the borough has been trying to get done for the past several years.

During the recent work session meeting, officials went over the situation with  Kenneth Job, borough engineer, citing previous estimates for paving and tree removal.

Originally the borough was planning to get the project done through federal stimulus funds but according to borough officials the monies never materialized leaving the borough back to stage one with determining how to fund the project.

Job reported on the condition of the roadway. Trees have grown into the road and into the curb. Previous estimates for tree removal was at about $3,000 to $4,000 per tree. Mike Kronyak, borough administrator and chief financial officer, and Bill Spindler, superintendent of the Department of Public Works agreed to look into new estimates for tree removal.

“We have to do something out of concern for the residents in that area,” Mayor Rose Heck commented.
