Subworks Brings its Giant Subs to Heights

Kaiser brothers expand family business into Heights

Anyone driving down Terrace Avenue can’t help notice the brand new shiny red sign announcing to all that there is a new shop in town -  Subworks, and as the sign says it is the home of the giant sub.

New owners Mark Kaiser and his brother David have been in the sub sandwich business just about all their lives. Mark explains that he remembers being behind the counter of his father’s shop since he was 5 years old.  His father successfully ran Subworks in Woodbridge for about 15 years before he and his brother decided to buy the business when his father entered into retirement about 5 years ago.

The brothers continue to run the Woodbridge location and have now expanded the business by opening this second location here in Heights.

Mark, who lives nearby in the borough, had noticed a lot of turnover at this location at the corner of Washington and Terrace over the past few years. For the past year he began exploring the possibilities of opening Subworks here and now with some new tables, a sandwich counter and their own recipe for the largest subs in town, they are open for business.

He pulls out a huge roll from behind the sandwich counter and explains how a half a sub at Subworks is almost as large as what some places would call a whole sub. Their large sub is about 18 inches long which makes their half subs about 9 inches, Kaiser said. He added that their prices are pretty cheap compared to other sub shops where as one can get a whole sandwich at Subworks for about the same price one may pay for a whole somewhere else.

Kaiser points out that it is a really good location as it’s right near the highway and the best part is parking is actually better in this area adding that there about anywhere from 10 to 15 on-street parking spots in the area at just about any given time.

New menus should be available as of Monday of this week, Kaiser said and the menu is likely to be expanded as well as he plans to add on buffalo wings and some other fried delights in addition to the subs, bagels, fries and their many other offerings. The shop is open six days a week – 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
