Taxpayers Will Learn About 2012 Municipal Budget Next Month
Borough's finance committee working to complete proposed budget for a March introduction.

Taxpayers will begin to get an idea of what the municipal portion of their tax bill will look like for this year in mid-March when the governing body is expected to introduce the municipal budget for 2012.
The borough’s finance committee has been meeting every week in order to meet its deadline of March 9 for the introduction of the 2012 budget, according to Mike Kronyak, borough administrator and chief financial office.

The borough had pushed its date of introduction back from February in order to accomodate the governor's budget adddress which was set for this past Tuesday. Christie announced Tuesday that state aid for municipalities will remain flat once again. Figures released Thursday morning from the state show the borough will receive the amount of $1,083,148 in state aid, which is the same amount the borough received last year, according to a copy of the 2011 budget.
Kronyak said during a finance report last week that the borough did not expect to see an increase in aid and hoped for no further cuts. In 2010, Christie cut more than $250,000 in aid to Hasbrouck Heights.

Last year the , meeting the state mandated 2 percent cap after making numerous cuts to department budgets which included laying off two employees and not replacing a third who had retired last summer.
Last week based on the results of the property reassessment process. Rick Del Guercio, head of Appraisal Systems, Inc. which conducted the process reported that the reassessment has resulted in a small shift of the tax burden to commercial properties.
