Wood-Ridge Homeland Security Agent Pleads Guilty to Theft of Government Property Charge

Steven Kucan admits to stealing items from the ICE and selling some of the items on eBay according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Steven Kucan, 48, the former Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) special agent, from Wood-Ridge who was , pleaded guilty this week, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, district of New Jersey.

Kucan, was a longtime supervisory special agent with the ICE which was previously known as the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), entered a guilty plea with U.S District Judge Esther Salas in Newark federal court this week. Kucan admitted to stealing property which belonged to the ICE and selling items on eBay, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office statement.

The statement says Kucan was responsible at the ICE for obtaining, storing and controlling office equipment and supplies. It goes on to say that the items stolen included printer cartridges, film, handcuffs, flashlights, gloves, duffle bags, safety glasses or goggles, life jackets, camera lenses, videocassette tapes, clothing, repelling rope, rescue blankets, siren lights, tools, portable radios, and an immersion suit for cold water survival.

Kucan also admitted to selling items on eBay using an account that he established in the name of one of his relatives, according to the statement.

Sentencing will be held on a date to be determined. Kucan faces a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. District Attorney’s office.
