Hatch Alert: 1st Bald Eagle Egg Of 2024 Hatches At Duke Farms In Hillsborough

The first of two bald eagle eggs laid in 2024 at Duke Farms hatched on Thursday evening.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — The first of two bald eagle eggs laid in 2024 has hatched at Duke Farms in Hillsborough.

The chick emerged from its shell around 5:39 p.m. on Feb. 29, but the shell was stuck on the chick, according to Conserve Wildlife Foundation of NJ.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, the chick was able to get fee of the shell, according to Conserve Wildlife.

"This morning the adult is keeping the remaining egg and chick warm, so the views of the chick are limited so far.," said Conserve Wildlife.

The first bald eagle egg of 2024 was laid at 3:48 p.m. Jan. 22, and the second egg arrived at 3:36 p.m. Jan. 25.

The second egg is expected to hatch within the next few days. The chicks will then most likely fledge, or become capable of flying, by the middle of May.

The eggs and the bald eagle parents can be seen on Duke Farms' Eagle cam, which livestreams the nest 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
