3rd Annual Superintendent's Gala To Showcase Art Work From Hillsborough Students K-12
APRIL 9 – The 3rd annual Hillsborough Township Board of Education Superintendent’s Gallery: Celebrating Excellence in Arts! gala will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Hillsborough Municipal Building (379 S. Branch Rd., Hillsborough) showcasing the works of three departments: Visual Arts, Music, and Family & Consumer Sciences.
All year round, the gallery serves as a rotating exhibit showcasing distinguished kindergarten through 12th grade student works of art presented in a museum-like setting. Each student piece was submitted for inclusion in the gallery by the student’s art teacher. The artists’ works can be viewed in the Board of Education (BOE) office, foyer, conference room, and hallway of the Municipal Building near the BOE office on business days from 8:00am to 4:00pm.
At the April 25th gala, the Superintendent’s Gallery will be open for personal viewing as well as the opportunity to hear musical excerpts under the touchscreen Sound Dome and view the digital scrolling gallery located in the BOE foyer between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm. From 5:00pm – 7:00pm, docent tours of the gallery will be conducted by teams of 3rd through 12th grade students, high school advanced art students, AP art students, and Art Honor Society members. Visitors may also view the scrolling digital gallery located in the foyer.
The Sound Dome will play student videos from band, choral and orchestra concerts for private listening. Live gallery music will be presented by selected K -12th instrumental and choral students (and student alumni) in the multi-purpose room, foyer, and conference room. There will also be art, music and culinary table displays and demonstrations during the evening.
At 5:00pm in the multi-purpose room, guests can join K-12th grade music and choral students in a “Be Our Guest” sing-along to open the Family & Consumer Sciences Department’s (FACS) buffet dinner. The FACS optional buffet dinner will be prepared, hosted, and served by Hillsborough High School advanced foods students under the direction of High School Family & Consumer Science teachers and chefs from Sodexo Food Services. Reservations are required to attend the dinner.
For a donation of $10 per person, diners will enjoy a choice of soup, salad, roll, main course, vegetables, drink, and dessert. To make reservations, please visit the district website, www.htps.us to download the Superintendent’s Gallery flyer and dinner reservation form.
The evening will culminate with an awards ceremony from 7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room. Exhibiting and performing artists, advanced food students, as well as staff will be recognized at this time. An encore presentation of the “Be Our Guest” sing-along will also be held.
