The Somerset County Park Commission Environmental Education Center at 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge has scheduled the following Naturalist-led programs to help children and adults enjoy the wonders of nature as spring brightens Somerset County. The Environmental Education Center provides many entertaining and educational programs for children and adults year around.

CHILDREN & TEEN PROGRAMS

 

Splish, Splash!

            Thursday, April 17 from 10:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M.

Children age infant to 5 with a parent will hike the Great Swamp to find

            the budding results of April showers.

            Fee is $10 per pair and $5 per additional child.

ADULT & FAMILY PROGRAMS

 

Learn to Compost

            Tuesday, April 15 from 4:15 P.M.to 5:15 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will learn how banana peels, apple cores,

            orange rinds, and much more can become an asset that is good for

            the yard, garden, and the environment.

            Fee is $6 per person.

Woodland Wildflowers – NEW!

Wednesday, April 16 from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M.

Adults will join a Naturalist for a leisurely walk through Lord Stirling

            Park in search of wildflowers carpeting the forest floor.

            Program is free.

Vernal Pool Hoppenings

            Saturday, April 19 from 3:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Family and friends of all ages will join a Naturalist for a walk out to the

            Swamp to vernal pools, the only areas where some species of

            amphibians will breed.

            Fee is $6 per person.

Blue “BOBO (Buy One – Bring One) Fridays” bins now are located at the Environmental Education Center and Lord Stirling Stable in Basking Ridge, as well as at the Somerset County Park Commission headquarters at North Branch

Park in Bridgewater.  The public is invited to drop off canned food or personal-care items for donation to Somerset County food banks.
