Somerset Co. Volunteer Firefighter Needs Help For Son With 'Devastating' Spinal Injury

A GoFundMe was set up for Gary Hemmings's 18-year-old son Osiris to give him a chance to possibly walk again.

FRANKLIN, NJ — A volunteer Firefighter with the Franklin Park Fire Department is in need of help after his son had a devastating spinal injury.

Gary Hemmings said his 18-year-old son Osiris fell and broke his spine while on a family trip in Jamaica.

He had emergency surgery to reconnect his neck to his spine.

However, "we need to bring him to the U.S. for additional surgeries. I am asking for your help to give my son a chance to possibly walk again," said Hemmings in the GoFundMe.

"We are reaching out to you, our compassionate and supportive community, to help us ensure Osiris gets the care he desperately needs. Any assistance you can provide will make a significant difference in giving him a chance to walk again," said Franklin Park Volunteer Fire Company - Station 31. "Thank you for your generosity and support during this challenging time."

The GoFundMe fundraising site was launched at the end of August by Hemmings' aunt Pauline Gayle. It has raised close to $10,000 of the $50,000 goal.
