Free Ukulele Lessons Offered To Somerset County Seniors
The six-week beginners' program will be held every Wednesday beginning July 13 to Aug. 17 in Montgomery.

MONTGOMERY, NJ – Register for free ukulele lessons offered at the county-operated Montgomery Senior Center in the Otto Kaufman Community Center, located at 356 Skillman Road, Skillman, NJ 08558. The six-week beginners’ program will be held every Wednesday beginning July 13 to Aug. 17, from 2 to 3 p.m. Registration is required by July 11.

The ukulele (uke) originated in Portuguese and became popular in Hawaii. The uke, a four-stringed instrument comes in four sizes that determine the tone. The largest size is a baritone; the smaller sizes are concert, soprano, and tenor. Many believe that playing the uke is good for the soul.
In this program, participants will enjoy learning how to strum, play simple chords and develop their ability to play songs that are easy to master on the uke. Other details about the program are listed below:

- Registration is required
- Experience with a stringed instrument is not necessary
- If possible, participants should bring their own ukuleles
- There are a limited number of ukuleles available for participants to borrow

Congregate Dining
Somerset County-operated senior centers offer a nutritionally balanced lunch on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for a suggested donation of $2.50 for anyone age 60 and above. Menu choices include a hot meat-based or meatless entrée or a cold meat-based or meatless boxed lunch. Make reservations for lunch on the previous business day before 10 a.m.
Grab & Go Lunch Program
Grab and Go Lunch service is available as a healthy alternative to congregate dining. Seniors can pick up their lunch curbside at any of the six county-operated senior centers on Tuesdays.
