HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Dr. Chris Ireland, Hillsborough Township Public Schools District Supervisor for Visual & Performing Arts and Related Areas, has been named the 2026 Visionary Supervisor of the Year by the New Jersey Principals and Supervisors Association (NJPSA).

This award recognizes school leaders who demonstrate dedication to student achievement, innovative leadership, and commitment to their professional community. Ireland was nominated by a peer.

Since joining the district, Ireland has advocated for the role of creative and related arts in education. Under his leadership, the applied technology, art, business, dance, family and consumer sciences, and music departments have seen new courses and equipment upgrades. This has allowed educators to maintain traditions while developing students for modern needs.

"While I am deeply honored by this recognition, this award is truly a testament to the incredible work happening in our classrooms every day," Ireland said. "I am most excited that this brings a spotlight to our teachers. Their passion and creativity are what drive our students to succeed, and I am lucky to support such a talented group of educators."

The NJPSA Visionary Leadership Awards celebrate individuals who impact broader school culture beyond their standard roles. Ireland’s ability to connect administrative goals with teachers' philosophical values has made Hillsborough Township Public Schools a model for arts and elective education in New Jersey.

"This recognition is well-deserved," said Michael Volpe, Superintendent of Schools. "His leadership doesn't just manage a department; it inspires it. He has a unique gift for empowering teachers to take risks and innovate, ensuring our students receive a world-class education in the arts."

Ireland will be honored by the NJPSA at an awards ceremony during the organization’s fall leadership conference later this year.
