Hillsborough Schools Monitor Winter Storm, Ask Parents To Be Prepared

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — As another winter storm heads to Hillsborough - with forecasters predicting 4 to 6 inches on Friday - Hillsborough School officials sent out a warning to parents on Thursday.

The District said it is continuing to monitor the weather with multiple partners, including the local Office of Emergency Management, the Hillsborough Police Department, the Department of Public Works, weather service providers, and members of Township leadership.

"It is too early to offer further clarity regarding the impacts that the weather may have on Hillsborough. However, I want to reinforce the importance of families having a plan if an Early Dismissal becomes necessary to facilitate a seamless dismissal process for students and staff members," said Hillsborough Township Public Schools.

Additionally, the district advised parents of Hillsborough High School students who drive to consider an alternative plan for their novice driver in advance.

Hillsborough Township has also postponed its Rabies Clinic which was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 20 due to inclement weather. The Township will notify the public once it is rescheduled.

Snowfall is slated to begin around 4 to 7 a.m. Friday, with the steadiest drop taking place late morning through Friday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service(NWS).

"Almost the entire area will see accumulating snow," the National Weather Service Mount Holly station wrote, adding that most counties will see 2 to 5 inches of snowfall, although 6 inches of accumulation will be possible in eastern Pennsylvania and central and southern New Jersey.

A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday in Hillsborough.

The snowfall is expected to taper off from west to east late Friday afternoon through Friday evening, though freezing or near-freezing temperatures are expected to linger through Sunday.

Here’s the latest forecast, according to the NWS:

Thursday Afternoon: Cloudy, with a high near 32. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday Night: A chance of snow, mainly after 3 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 24. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming calm. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Friday: Snow. High near 30. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Friday Night: A chance of snow, mainly before 10 p.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 13. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
