Hillsborough Urged To Advocate For Better State Aid School Funding

The New Jersey Department of Education is hosting a meeting on Wednesday where members of the public may comment on the school funding law.

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Township residents are being urged to advocate for a better state funding method to benefit the school district.

Since the S2 state school funding formula began the Hillsborough School District has lost a cumulative $7 million since the 2018-19 school year.

Last year the district was projected to have a cut of $2.7 million in state aid for the 2025 fiscal year. However, following recent legislation from the state the Board of Education was provided a one-time return of 45 percent of this year's $2.7 million state aid cut, $1.2 million.

The N.J. Legislature is considering changes to the School Funding Reform Act, and the New Jersey Department of Education has announced a local meeting when educators and members of the public may comment on the school funding law.
