New Officer Joins Hillsborough Police Department

HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — A new police officer has joined the Hillsborough Township Police Department.

Officer Sara Harrilal was sworn in as a new police officer by Mayor Shawn Lipani at the July 18 Township Committee meeting.

Harrilal will serve as a full-time Police Officer effective July 10 at an annual salary of $48,136.

Harrilal is the recipient of a scholarship through the Police Scholarship Program. She will begin her training at the Monmouth County Police Academy on July 24, completing the program on Dec. 12.

Scholarships are funded by The American Rescue Plan and overseen by the Somerset County Prosecutors Office.

The focus of the scholarships is to encourage diversity among police departments as they relate to their communities.

"Congratulations to Officer Harrilal on the award of this scholarship," Lipani said. "She will be working and training with one of the best Police Departments in the country and we can’t wait to see her grow within the Department and the Hillsborough community."
