New Route 206 Jughandle Opens Friday In Hillsborough
Overnight lane closures are expected Thursday ahead of the opening of the new jughandle, which will eliminate left turns to Triangle Road.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Drivers can expect overnight lane closures on Route 206 Thursday in order for a new jughandle to open Friday in Hillsborough. The construction is part of the Route 206 Bypass project.
Beginning at 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 29 through 7 a.m. on Aug. 30 one lane on Route 206 northbound and southbound will close along with a lane on Falcon Road near the intersection to re-stripe lanes, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials said.
Along with re-striping, new signals will be installed. At least one lane will be open in each direction on Route 206 during the work.

A new jughandle from Route 206 north to Falcon Road will open on Friday.
The new jughandle at the intersection will permanently eliminate left turns from Route 206 northbound to Triangle Road. The new intersection will allow cars to turn onto Triangle Road or make a U-turn onto Route 206 southbound, according to the NJDOT.

When completed, the Route 206 Hillsborough Bypass will shift traffic onto a new 3.6-mile section of Route 206 to the east of the existing highway between Mountain View Road and Old Somerville Road, which will allow for Hillsborough to develop a town center.
The $44 million state-funded 1.7-mile center section of the bypass was completed in October 2013.
The remaining portion which will cost $36.6 million in state and federal funds runs from Mountain View Road to Hillsborough Road on the southern end and from Amwell Road/CR 514 to Old Somerville Road on the northern end. The project also included building the new jughandle.
The entire bypass project is expected to be completed by fall 2020.
