Rotary Club of Bernardsville Shops for the Safe House

June 12 - OUTREACH CENTER - HILLSBOROUGH - Today, in the early afternoon, an SUV towing a small trailer pulled up in our driveway.  Three members of the Rotary Club of Bernardsville were here to deliver assorted bedding, toiletries and personal care items, towels, baby diapers and a few stuffed animal toys, all for use in our Safe House.

Club President Cheryl Delgado said, "After Veronica [Finlay, Development Coordinator] visited our club and told us about the work being done to help victims of domestic abuse, we wanted to do something that would help too."  And so the club members began fund raising and collecting donations, $1,000.  The amount they raised was matched by the Rotary District Council.  They also used a part of the donation to support the Food Bank in Bernardsville.

Right now, the Safe House is undergoing the second stage of renovations over the past year.  The Friends of the Shelter began with refurbishing the living room area which was completed in March 2013 and then turned their attention to giving the kitchen and dining areas a complete makeover.  Facilities Manager Sue Rivera said, "Verizon Wireless employees who volunteer their time, recently painted the upstairs bedrooms and it will be nice to redecorate with new bedding to make the rooms feel more welcoming."
