This traffic shift will move drivers to the right onto the newly constructed roadway allowing the jug handle from Route 206 to open.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Drivers on Route 206 in Hillsborough can expect to see an overnight lane closure and traffic shift on Friday as the Bypass project advances, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced.
Work will begin at 9:30 p.m. Friday and continue through 7 a.m., Saturday where the northbound lane on Route 206 at Mountain View Road in Hillsborough will close and alternating traffic in the southbound lane will be set up to prepare for a traffic shift.
The traffic shift will move drivers to the right onto the newly constructed roadway allowing the jug handle from Route 206 northbound to Mountain View Road to open. Drivers will also no longer be able to turn left from Route 206 northbound onto Mountain View Road.

When completed, the Route 206 Hillsborough Bypass will shift traffic onto a new 3.6-mile section of Route 206 to the east of the existing highway between Mountain View Road and Old Somerville Road, which will allow for Hillsborough to develop a town center.
The $44 million state-funded 1.7-mile center section of the bypass was completed in October 2013.

The remaining portion which will cost $36.6 million in state and federal funds runs from Mountain View Road to Hillsborough Road on the southern end and from Amwell Road/CR 514 to Old Somerville Road on the northern end. The project also included building the new jughandle.
The entire bypass project is expected to be completed by fall 2020.
