Summer Adventures for Teens Start at the Somerset Valley YMCA’s Expanded Teen Travel Camp

Summer is a time for teens to relax and enjoy time off with friends, but often boredom sets in.

To keep teens connected, engaged, and active in the summer months, the Somerset Valley YMCA is offering an expanded Teen Travel camp and is taking registrations now

This summer, teens will go whitewater rafting, take surfing lessons, enjoy a water park, or play laser tag. They’ll visit amusement parks, tour universities and go to the Philadelphia zoo.

“Summer camp forces teens to get out from behind the screens of their cellphones and video games and communicate with one another,”  said Matt Gray, camp director in Hillsborough

“Not only will the teens in our Travel Camp have an unforgettable, adventure-filled summer, they’ll develop important social skills and build their confidence to try new things.”

To ensure that all kids have the opportunity to go to camp, the nonprofit Somerset Valley YMCA offers financial assistance to families who qualify.

Previously only in Bridgewater, the Y’s Teen Travel camp has expanded to all three Somerset Valley YMCA camp locations, including Hillsborough and Somerville.  It is for teens entering grades 7 through 10.

In addition to travel camp, the Somerset Valley YMCA offers more than 60 different camp sessions for all ages. For high school students, other programs in addition to Teen Travel include scuba diving certification, and youth leadership camps, as well as junior lifeguard and volleyball for those entering eighth grade.

Nationally, the Y has been a leader in providing summer camp for 128 years. At the Somerset Valley YMCA, parents can expect their children to enjoy enriching, safe experiences with caring staff and volunteers who model positive values that help build their kids’ character.

Somerset Valley YMCA day camps are voluntarily accredited by the American Camp Association, which means they meet the highest set of standards for camps in the nation in the areas of health and risk management, staff development, transportation and aquatics.
