Summer Science Programs for Ages 7 to 16

Children age 7 to 16 will have an opportunity to enjoy an entertaining learning experience this summer at the Environmental Education Center, 190 Lord Stirling Road in Basking Ridge, New Jersey.

 

The Somerset County Park Commisssion Naturalists are offering one-week and two-week sessions for age groups 7 to 9 (Eco-Explorers) and two-week sessions for age group10 to 12 (AWESIM Kids), focused  on science, the environment, and the natural world.

Eco-Explorers is a full day (8:30 A.M.to 4:30 P.M.) summer discovery program for ages 7 to 9 with each themed session including nature lessons, educational field trips, games, hikes, canoeing, swimming, arts and crafts, and more.

AWESIM KIDS (Animals, Wetlands, Environmental Science, and Incredible Minds) is a unique combination of fun, learning, and summer vacation relaxation for ages 10 to 13 with days boating, hiking, learning about local wildlife, meeting interesting professionals, and going on unique day trips from 8:30 A.M.to 4:30 P.M..

 

Monday, July 7 to Friday, July 18                   YUM!                          $720

            A program about wild edibles and growing organic.

Monday, August 4 to Friday, August 15         WOW                         $720

            A program about the World of Wildlife.

 

Registration on-line, walk-in, and by phone is in progress. A minimum deposit payment of $150 per session is due at registration. A post-program Extended Care Option is available for all sessions.

 “Xtreme Adventures” for ages 13 to 16 will entice teens away from video games and computers and have them enjoy the benefits of the great outdoors.

 

“Xtreme Adventures will take teens on a series of exciting, educational, and enjoyable day trips. Trips may include hiking the Appalachian Trail, swimming in

glacial lakes, splashing around natural waterfalls, rock climbing, kayaking, stand-up paddling and white water rafting.

 

Day trip dates include Tuesdays July 1, 9, 15, 22, 29, 31 and August 5 and 12 (overnight). Registration is in progress and is accepted for individual dates online, walk-in, and by phone and in person at the Environmental Education Center. Prices will vary from $25 to $200 per person per trip.
