Sunnymead Elementary Students Hold Book Drive to Benefit James Monroe Elementary School
Students at Sunnymead Elementary School recently held a school-wide book collection to benefit the students of James Monroe Elementary School in Edison, NJ. A fire destroyed the Edison elementary school in late March. Sunnymead students and families donated over 15 large boxes of books in an effort to support students in the nearby school district.
The book drive project was initiated by Dr. Tammy Jenkins, School Principal and Ms. Julie West, School Guidance Counselor, as part of the school’s Character Education program. The drive reinforced to students the traits of “citizenship” and “caring”.
For two weeks, Sunnymead students and their families contributed books to help replenish James Monroe Elementary School’s library. The books were collected and boxed by the students and then delivered to the Edison Township Board of Education.

“Sunnymead students and their families responded immediately and generously to the needs of students in a neighboring community,” said Dr. Tammy Jenkins, Sunnymead Principal. “This project truly brought the abstract character traits of citizenship and caring to light for our students.”
