Tampering With Political Signs Has Consequences, Hillsborough Warns
Hillsborough Mayor Shawn Lipani reminded those who tamper with (steal or vandalize) political signs can be charged.
HILLSBOROUGH, NJ — Election season is in full swing and Hillsborough Township Mayor Shawn Lipani is reminding residents that tampering with (stealing or vandalizing) political signs is a violation of other people’s freedom of speech.
According to the law, anyone who tampers with political signs can be charged with theft, criminal mischief, and/or trespassing, said Lipani at the Oct. 25 meeting.
"Simply put people, no one should touch a candidate's sign for any reason," said Lipani. "I know they are there but they will be gone in a couple of weeks."
