3 Men Charged With Aggravated Assault In Separate Weekend Incidents In Hoboken

Two of the three men arrested for aggravated assault in Hoboken over the weekend were charged with assault of a police officer.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken police charged three separate men with aggravated assault over the weekend, including one man who allegedly spat at police.

Police said that on Sunday, around 7:20 p.m., they arrested Hakeem Lawrence, 34, of Elizabeth, at Third and Jackson streets. They charged him with aggravated assault of police officers, throwing bodily fluids, and refusal to be fingerprinted.

Police said they responded to the area after getting a report of a dispute between two people.

According to a police spokesperson, "When officers approached Lawrence, he was consuming an alcoholic beverage and during the interaction with officers, he tossed the bottle at one of the officers, who was hit with its contents. While being arrested and transported, Lawrence began to spit on the patrol car and on another responding officer."

Lawrence’s charges were placed on a warrant, and he was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, police said.

Responding To A Fight

The day before, according to police, Abdalrahm Aksu, 22, of Hasbrouck Heights was arrested in the area of First and River Streets and charged with aggravated assault and disorderly conduct.

Police said that they responded to reports of a fight, and "arrived to find multiple people showing signs of being in a fight. One person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries."

Aksu was arrested for his alleged role in the fight, police said. He was processed and later released on a summons.

Police said that Patrick Januszewski, 22, of Staten Island, was charged with disorderly conduct for his alleged involvement in the fight.

Allegedly Bit Officer

And in a third incident over the weekend, Ryan Welch, 28, of Jersey City was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer Sunday night, for an incident in which he allegedly bit an officer. Read that report here.
