After Wrong-Way Drive In Holland Tunnel, Man Charged With DWI

A man was charged with DWI after exiting the Holland Tunnel in New Jersey, then driving back into it to return to Manhattan, police said.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Manhattan man was charged with DWI after — according to police — he drove through the Holland Tunnel, wound up in Jersey City, then turned around and drove the wrong way back into the tunnel to return to Manhattan.

Port Authority spokesman Lenis Valens said that James Dickerson, 30, of Manhattan was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and failure to obey traffic control devices on Wednesday.

Valens said that at approximately 2:27 a.m. Wednesday moring, "a vehicle exited the North Tube of the Holland Tunnel in Jersey City, turned around, and then proceeded to travel against traffic inside the North Tube back to NYC."

A report said the specific lane he drove back into was closed to traffic, so a tragedy was averted.
