Blue Apron Plans To Close Jersey City Plant; 1270 Workers Affected

The affected workers have been offered employment at a new facility in Linden, reports say.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — The Blue Apron meal-kit delivery company plans to close a major fulfillment center in Jersey City and eliminate more than 1,200 jobs, but the affected workers have been offered employment at a new facility in Linden, reports say.

Blue Apron filed a WARN notice with the New Jersey Department of Labor - which employers are required to post 60 days in advance of covered plant closings and mass layoffs – stating that 1,270 workers will be affected by the closure at its Jersey City facility.

Blue Apron Holdings Inc.’s stock dropped severely Friday after the closure announcement, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The news comes as Blue Apron work to open a 495,000-square-foot fulfillment center in Linden later this year, which will bring about 2,000 jobs with it, NJ.com reported.

The affected Jersey City workers have been offered similar positions at the Linden facility, according to a Blue Apron spokesperson.
