Cafe Opens in Uptown Hot Spot
The Cream and Sugar Cafe is now open across from Shoprite.
The residents of all those sparkling new condos uptown now have a new place to go to get their morning jolt. The Cream and Sugar Cafe, located at 1001 Madison Street across from Shoprite, opened in late October.
“The goal is grab and go, a little bit of everything,” the cafe's owner said, who didn't want his name in the article.
Though the core business might be carryout, the cafe does have some indoor seating, as well as wireless internet for patrons who want to get some work done over coffee. The owner also plans to add outdoor seating next spring.

The owner said Cream and Sugar will mix and match a freshly made daily fare from its overall menu that includes sandwiches, bagels, pastries, croissants, cupcakes and a soup of the day, plus several different types of coffee, cappuccino and lattes. The Arabica beans used to brew the coffee are imported from Italy.
“The bagels have been a big hit, we didn't anticipate that,” the owner said.

The owner said he had been looking for a location when he saw the potential of Hoboken, and particularly the intersection near the grocery store that sees heavy pedestrian traffic.
“It's a great spot,” he said. “The place has come out better than we imagined.”
The owner said that he wants Cream and Sugar Cafe in Hoboken, which currently employs five additional people, to be the flagship location of a chain. He is planning his next location in Ridgewood.
The owner said settling on a name for the cafe was a simple process.
“We thought, what do people like to have with their coffee,” he said. “Cream and sugar.”
