Choc O Pain Bakery Brings French Quarter to First Street
The bakery, under construction since last fall, opened over the weekend.
The bread has come out of the oven – French themed bakery Choc O Pain has at 157 First Street.
Owner Clemence Danko, a Parisian native who grew up baking with her family and later went to culinary school, said during the design and construction process that she wanted the décor to recapture the feel of a French cafe.
"I hope people can project for themselves the feeling of being in Paris,” she said.

The bakery, which offers wireless internet, features separate tables and chairs downstairs, as well as a large table that could seat nearly ten people, plus elegant couches and chairs upstairs.
The name is a pun on the French pastry pain-au-chocolat. It will serve fresh pastries, sweets, bread and coffee among other fare. Many of the menu items are organic. Customers can see the baking happen through a window looking into the kitchen.
