Pipes are bursting all over Hoboken, and it may be the cold weather's fault. Learn some ways to lower the risk of frozen pipes here.
HOBOKEN, NJ — Pipes are bursting all over Hoboken, and it may be the cold weather’s fault, local authorities say.
On New Year’s Day, the Hoboken Fire Department issued a public advisory, stating that “severe weather is causing pipes to burst” across the city. Residents should call 911 or the HFD at 201-420-2004 in the event of a burst pipe, especially if there is any hazard such as wet electric fixtures or damaged smoke detectors, authorities said.
One such incident took place at a senior building on 1st Street, prompting an evacuation of the premises. According to the HFD, "a large water leak disabled the fire sprinkler/standpipe system." The system was restored and partially repaired, with full repairs expected by Tuesday.
