'Doorman Dave' Of Hoboken Loses Belongings In Fire; GoFundMe Raises Funds For Family
An employee of CVS and Northern Soul restaurant in Hoboken lost everything in a fire. Friends are raising money.
HOBOKEN, NJ — David Hernandez's face is familiar to those who've stopped into Northern Soul Restaurant in downtown Hoboken, or the CVS on Newark Street. He works at both places and keeps a smile on his face.
But "Doorman Dave" and his family lost most of their possessions in a fire at their Jackson Street apartment on Sunday.
Now his employers have set up a fundraiser.

"This is David Hernandez," says the GoFundMe, displaying a photo of him and his daughter. "He's been doing security at NoSo for the last 15 years or so. In fact he's our longest serving employee. He actually works two jobs, most Hoboken folk no doubt recognize him from the local CVS also. He was born and raised in Hoboken, tbh he's more of a meeter/greeter than a security guard.
"He's married and has the most adorable daughter called Janyvah. All the man does is work and care for his family, some people actually call him the real mayor of Hoboken."

They added, "On Sunday his apartment on Jackson Street caught fire and he lost all of his family's belongings. Thankfully nobody was home so everyone is safe and sound but unfortunately their entire life has been devastated. Right now they are staying with family while they find a new apartment and try to start over again. We will be doing a number of fundraiser events to help but a lot of neighbors and regulars have been asking for a direct way to help."
Many people did recognize "Doorman Dave" — and in fact, more than 540 people donated, some in small amounts.
As of Thursday, the fundraiser had raised $43,316, surpassing a $10,000 goal.
