Africa
Event to Raise Awareness on Plight of Refugees and Raise Funds for Local Programs to Help Immigrants in Detention
Jersey City- On Wednesday June 20th beginning at 7:00 PM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on 440 Hoboken Ave. IRATE & First Friends will join countless civic groups around the world to recognize the United Nations World Refugee Day with a celebration of the people, food, music and culture of the Middle East and North Africa. The purpose is to raise awareness about refugees, internally displaced and stateless people while raising funds for the programs of IRATE & First Friends manage that provide non-legal services to immigrants in detention in NJ and their families as well as post release services and support.

Women's Choir; Yasser Darwish of The Egyptian Celebration Company— a master of the Tanoura or Whirling Dervish dance; Cathy Breen of Voices for Creative Non-Violence speaking about her work with Iraqi refugees

programs and provides detainees with writing materials, books and other assistance at four of the seven New Jersey facilities holding immigrants suspected of immigration violations.
