Fake Verizon Rep Tricks Glen Rock Resident Into Sending $1,670 Via Zelle
A Glen Rock resident sent three payments to a scammer who pretended to be from Verizon, police said.
GLEN ROCK, NJ — A Glen Rock resident was scammed out of $1,670.43 after someone called claiming to be from Verizon, said police in that town on Monday.
Someone called the resident claiming to be fro Verizon Wireless and said that two phones were ordered from their account and shipped to Colorado, police said.
"When the complainant sought proof that the caller was in fact a Verizon representative, the caller convinced them by shutting down their phone for a few minutes and then restoring service," police said.

The caller then told the person to send payments to three different people to resolve the account charges. The caller said that the victim would later get the money back.
When the money was not returned, the victim notified their bank and froze their account.

The matter is currently under review by the Glen Rock Detective Bureau, police said.
