Flash Flood Watch In Effect For Hoboken Late Wednesday

A downpour is predicted for Hoboken late Wednesday, but with about an inch of rain, whereas more than 5 inches fell during Ida.

HOBOKEN, NJ — It won't be deja vu all over again, but Hoboken may experience a fair amount of rain (half to three quarters of an inch) in a short time late Wednesday night, the National Weather Service says in its hazardous weather outlook.

A flash flood watch was issued for the area for Wednesday afternoon into evening.

The NWS said the risk of flash floods could be "severe" in some areas (see map and presentation here).

Tropical Depression Ida dropped as much as 10 inches of rain in some areas last week. A spotter said in Hoboken got at least 4.9 inches. The NWS expects Hoboken to get only as much as .75 inches Wednesday (see the forecast here).

The National Weather Service said: "A cold frontal passage will produce a round of showers and thunderstorms across the area late Wednesday into Wednesday night. Due to wet antecedent conditions, the area is susceptible to flooding. Locally heavy rainfall may produce flash flooding."

Meanwhile, Hurricane Larry was expected to stay off the coast, but could bring heavy surf to the beaches. Track it here.

On Monday, Mayor Ravi Bhalla said he was "disappointed" that Hudson County was left off the list for the first round of FEMA funding, but asked residents to document their damage and report it to the government. READ MORE: Hoboken Mayor 'Disappointed' Hoboken Left Off FEMA List
