French Restaurant Canard Café Will Open In Jersey City Urby Building
The French café Canard will open its first NJ location in Jersey City's Urby development, in the Harborside waterfront neighborhood.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — Now that 9Bar has closed its location in the lobby of Jersey City's residential Urby building, a French cafe that's popular in New York's financial district is moving in.
Canard Cafe Bar, described as "a French-inspired café and lounge known for serving unparalleled coffee, freshly baked croissants, and homemade desserts," will open this Saturday.
The Urby brand of residential developments has become known for its shared social spaces, and has "partnered with the Canard Team to further enhance the connection between residents and their surroundings," said a spokesperson.

Canard Café Bar was founded by Sebastien Muller, director of operations for Le District, the premier French market and food hall located in Brookfield Place. The café’s name is inspired by the French custom of canard, dipping a sugar cube in coffee as a treat.
Following a recent successful launch in Manhattan’s Financial District, Muller decided to bring Canard’s food and beverage menu across the Hudson River.

Muller is one of several business owners who have recently decided to launch their first New Jersey location in Jersey City, including Maman Cafe and the Brooklyn-based Natural Market.

“With Canard, we’re creating a lively environment for people to enjoy delicious coffee, pastries and bites throughout the day,” said Muller this week. “We’re thrilled to be opening in the Jersey City Urby where we will be part of a community that can share in our culture and is a hub for the neighborhood to stop in for a coffee, work, or meet with friends.”
French Chef Anthony Matteu and his team will offer an all-day experience for guests to connect and socialize in a casual setting. Canard Café Bar’s dishes will range from egg sandwiches, crepes, and apple turnovers, to quiche, a croque madame, and salads.
Desserts will include Belgian chocolate mousse, classic key lime pie, biscotti crust cheesecake, and apple cinnamon crumble. The drink menu consists of hot and iced coffee, espressos, lattes, teas, smoothies, fresh squeezed juices, and protein shakes.
“We’re excited to bring this fresh concept to Jersey City,” said David Barry, founder and CEO of Urby. “The addition of Canard Café Bar reflects Urby’s commitment to creating vibrant community spaces for residents and locals.”
Canard Café at Jersey City Urby will be open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Jersey City Urby is located at 200 Greene St., an easy walk from the Harborside light rail station or Exchange Place PATH.
