Gay Minister Finds New Home At Hoboken Church

The former Seton Hall director of campus ministry claimed he was fired for supporting same-sex marriage on social media.

A gay Essex County minister allegedly dismissed from his position at Seton Hall for advocating same-sex marriage has been hired as parochial vicar at a Hoboken church.

Msgr. Robert Meyer of The Catholic Community of Saints Peter and Paul announced on Wednesday that Newark Archbishop John Myers appointed Warren Hall - Seton Hall University’s former director of campus ministry – to his new job, effective Aug. 15.

“Hall and I have been friends since before our undergraduate days at Seton Hall University,” Meyer wrote on a social media post. “I hope you will join me in warmly welcoming him to our parish family.”

Hall had claimed in May that he was fired for making a post on Facebook in support of same-sex marriage.

Shortly afterwards, Hall announced that he was gay, stating that “the best way to live is to live honestly.”

The Archdiocese of Newark refuted the charges the Hall was fired because of his support of same-sex marriage.

“His tenure is ending at the university as director of campus ministry and he is available for another assignment... I think people are misconstruing an awful lot,” Archdiocese spokesman Jim Goodness told The Huffington Post. “The church has long taught that every person is to be treated with dignity and respect.
