HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The company's been around nearly as long as the light bulb, and now General Electric is creating drones for uses such as traffic management. And they want to celebrate the upcoming launch of three public companies by launching 1,000 drones from the Hudson County waterfront Monday night. [UPDATE: See photos from the Monday night light show here.]

The drones, meant to be seen from New Jersey and Manhattan, will tell stories, the company said in an announcement.

Starting April 2, the company will consist of, besides the main company, GE Aerospace, GE Vernova, and GE HealthCare.

"On the evening of April 1st, GE will celebrate a new era in its storied history with a storytelling spectacle of 1,000 drones," they noted. "As one of the longest-standing companies on the NYSE, GE will officially complete its transformation into three independent public companies with the separation of GE Aerospace and GE Vernova on April 2nd."

General Electric was founded by Thomas Edison, whose laboratory was in New Jersey, in 1889.

In their new announcement, GE said, "Alongside GE HealthCare, these three independent entities will represent a new frontier of innovation, each pioneering advancements in their respective fields."

It's unclear exactly where they'll be — their announcement claims "The drones will launch from Weehawken Waterfront Park in Hoboken, NJ." The Weehawken Waterfront Park is actually 1.5 miles north off Hoboken, in...Weehawken. Well, New Jersey geography can be confusing you're focusing on the New York market. But the release seems to indicate that the drones will be visible from Hoboken and Manhattan.

Reports say the drones will head 100 feet into the sky, then dance around the width of 500 feet. The show will run from 9 to 9:30 p.m., reports say. Head to the waterfront if you want to enjoy the show.
