Free Ice Cream: Paletas Shop In Hoboken Offers Freebies This Weekend

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Mexican Ice Cream Shop Morelia Gourmet Paletas, a chain with locations around the country, opened last week for business on Hoboken's main drag of Washington Street.

Now, the shop says they will give away one paleta per customer at their grand opening celebration this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 15 and 16. Stop in between 1 and 8 p.m., they said.

Customers can sign up here, but it's fine to show up, too.

The shop held a soft opening this past Tuesday. They serve up ice cream and sherbet pops on a stick in flavors from s'mores to passion fruit.

With each pop, customers can choose a coating/dip, such as white chocolate, and then a topping, such as cookie bits or sprinkles.

Earlier this summer, they moved into the storefront formerly occupied by Spesh hair salon, which went mobile back in June.

"Paletas are a popular Mexican frozen treat!" explained owner Letisia Campo. "Our paletas are handmade in small batches in our Hollywood, Florida location and are made from fresh fruits and rich creamy ingredients such chocolate directly from Belgium and pistachios from Sicily."

"We have filled paletas such as banana filled with Nutella," she said, "dulce de leche filled with dulce de leche directly from Argentina, and passion fruit paleta filled with condensed milk!"

You can also combine your two favorite paletas into a shake or fruit smoothie.

Prices for the pops start at a bit over $6, with various add-ons extra.
