Mexican-Style Ice Cream Popsicles Will Replace 'Spesh' On Hoboken's Washington Street
Find out about the unique dessert sensation that's coming to Hoboken this summer and when it will open.
HOBOKEN, NJ — If you're in Hoboken and screaming for ice cream, there are several choices, including gelato joints and a mom-and-pop. But another unique option will also join the field this summer.
Moving into the storefront formerly occupied by Spesh hair salon — which went mobile last weekend — will be Morelia Gourmet Paletas.
Paletas are served as ice cream, fruit, or sweets on a stick — they're easy to eat and easy to love.

"Paletas are a popular Mexican frozen treat!" explained Letisia Campo. "Our paletas are handmade in small batches in our Hollywood, Florida location and are made from fresh fruits and rich creamy ingredients such chocolate directly from Belgium and pistachios from Sicily."
Campo and her husband are the owners, she said. "We are hoping to be open by mid August. We’re excited to bring another veteran and female owned business and join the Hoboken community."

The best part? The flavors will be rich and unique.
They'll offer cookies and cream paletas with Ore, strawberry cheesecake, and Greek yogurt with berry flavor, as well as toppings like s'mores.

There will also be fruit paletas such as strawberry, lime, mango and passion fruit.
"Lastly, we have filled paletas such as banana filled with Nutella, dulce de leche filled with dulce de leche directly from Argentina, and passion fruit paleta filled with condensed milk!"
Isn't that enough to warm your icy heart?
"We are also very excited to offer creamy vegan options for those who prefer something other than our fruity paletas. Our coconut paleta, the nocciola hazelnut as well as the chocolate hazelnut cookies and cream paleta are all vegan. We are also proud to serve sugar free, gluten free, and Kosher options.
"The goal is to make paletas a fun experience! You will get to choose your favorite handmade gourmet paleta, then choose one of our delicious dippings from Italy (also with vegan options) to submerge the paleta then we can roll the paleta in a topping of your choice."
You'll also be able to combine your two favorite paletas into a shake or fruit smoothie.
Morelia will be located at 932 Washington St., the former site of Spesh.
