Starting on December 26th and running through New Year’s Day, Liberty Science Center guests will be able to enjoy an array of activities, including the always popular Slap Shot Hockey, TP Blizzard, Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Show, Owls: Hunters of the Night Sky and Penguin Pointers.
At Slap Shot Hockey, guests ages 10 and under can shoot a hockey puck on an entirely synthetic ice rink that looks and feels just like ice but never melts! Each day at noon, visitors can head to Governors Hall for a TP Blizzard, where the floor will be covered in a flurry of toilet paper in seconds!

Other free but limited ticket highlights include the:
- Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream Show on 12/26, 12/31 and 1/1 at 11am and 3pm. Guests will be able to see ice cream created the scientific way and even be able to get a taste!
- Owls: Night Hunters of the Sky show on 12/27 and 12/28 with show times at 11am, 1pm and 2pm. Visitors can learn about and experience owls from the Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge up close and personal.
- Penguin Pointers brings presenters from Jenkinson’s Aquarium and one of their resident penguins to LSC on 12/29 and 12/30 with showtimes at 11am, 1pm and 2pm.
Other activities include the Giant Snow Globe in Governors Hall that provides for the perfect photo opportunity! There will also be the We Explore: Simple Machine Playground, where guests can ride a see-saw or work with staff members to make connections using smaller versions of simple machines. Guests can also partake in Suit Up for Science! In which they’re able to try on different clothing and learn about careers in science that don’t involve a lab coat and goggles!
There are also two new labs, the Glacier Gak Lab and the Cookie Caper Lab, that will be open all day throughout the 12 Days of Science. The Glacier Gak Lab gives guests a look at how glaciers move and an opportunity to create their own glacial movements with globs of gooey gak! The Cookie Caper Lab will bring guests to an ugly sweater party where they will have to use real detective tools and techniques to find out who stole the plate of cookies from the party.
Lastly, the Art-thropods presentation will bring artistic insects to LSC at 11:30am each day. Insects will paint artwork right in front of visitors’ eyes and give them a new appreciation for these crawly creatures!
Liberty Science Center will also be hosting a 12 Days of Science photo contest this year with an opportunity to win a year of free membership! Guests can submit their favorite photos from their visit on Twitter, Instagram or posted on Liberty Science Center’s Facebook wall using the hashtag #LSC12Days. Photo submissions begin on December 26th and winners will be announced January 7th.
