The rideshare landscape in Hoboken continues to evolve.

The rideshare landscape in the Hoboken/New York City area continues to evolve.

Citing a low return on its investment, national car rental company Hertz announced that it will be phasing out its carshare service – initially called Connect By Hertz and currently known as Hertz 24/7 – at all U.S. locations by September.

Hertz had maintained two major hubs for the service, one of which was in NYC/Hobooken.

“While we are discontinuing our small presence in the U.S. and certain European cities, we are not exiting the business altogether,” the company stated in a release. “We continue to see success with car-sharing in certain segments internationally.”

Hertz’s announcement comes on the heels of electronic rideshare service Uber’s launch of its first New Jersey office in Hoboken on July 28.
