HOBOKEN, NJ — The city of Hoboken will kick off LGBTQ+ Pride Month this Monday with a Pride Flag raising in front of City Hall at 94 Washington St. at 5 p.m.

Pride Month traces its roots to and commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Riots, or Stonewall Uprising.

On June 28, 1969, police in New York City raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar on Christopher Street in the West Village. The raid sparked six days of protests.

These days, towns and cities host events to show solidarity with and inclusion of the LGBTQ+ community.

"The city of Hoboken has and will always be an inclusive home where we celebrate our diversity," said Mayor Ravi Bhalla. "I encourage all Hoboken residents to join us as we raise the Pride Flag to demonstrate our continued solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community."
