Hoboken Man, 34, Caught With Meth In Car After Police Chase, NY Sheriff Says

A Hoboken man, 34, was captured after a police chase through two counties in New York State, and was wanted in PA, says a county sheriff.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A Hoboken man was arrested last Wednesday after a chase through two New York State counties, a sheriff in that state said. He was also wanted in Pennsylvania, said the sheriff.

Putnam County Sheriff Kevin McConville announced the arrest last week of Sean P. McDermott, 34, of Hoboken, on narcotics and several other charges.

According to McConville, on March 6, at 12:15 p.m., the Real Time Crime Center at Westchester County Police headquarters broadcast an alert that a vehicle was wanted in connection with fleeing a traffic stop in Elmsford, N.Y.

Police received a broadcast that the vehicle was traveling northbound in Putnam County.

Several Westchester County police agencies tried to stop the car, which "failed to comply with a lawful order to stop before entering Putnam County," the sheriff said.

Narcotics Enforcement Unit investigators, who were in the area, located the vehicle traveling northbound on Peekskill Hollow Road, McConville said.

The car then continued briefly into the town of Yorktown before traveling northbound on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Putnam Valley.

The unregistered vehicle, which had switched plates, stopped on the Taconic Parkway, just north of the Bryant Pond Road exit, McConville said.

That's when police took McDermott into custody without further incident.

McConville said he "possessed a quantity of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest."

He was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, reckless endangerment, unlawful fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, aggravated unlicensed operation, and vehicle and traffic law violations.

McDermott also had an outstanding extraditable felony bench warrant out of Pennsylvania for failing to appear for a drug-related arrest, McConville said. Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that the warrant was active, he said. So McConville was processed as a fugitive from justice.

McDermott was arraigned by Hon. Judge Douchkoff of the Town of Kent court and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility pending a County Court hearing, McConville said.

On March 7, 2024, the judge sent McDermott to the Correctional Facility pending an extradition hearing for Pennsylvania.

Westchester County Police, New York State Police, Carmel Police, and Yorktown Police all assisted with the investigation, the sheriff said. Read more here.
