Hoboken And New York City May Hear Fireworks Thursday Night: Here's Why

A celebration on the Hudson River on Thursday night will include fireworks.

NORTH JERSEY — When fireworks explode over the Hudson River, residents of Hoboken, Jersey City, and Manhattan often head to social media to find out who's behind them.

This Thursday night, fireworks are scheduled to be set off from Pier 61 over the Hudson River — which means they may be heard in New Jersey — as well as in two other locations.

Roc Nation is planning a display over the East River at 8:30 p.m., and a simultaneous display over the Hudson.

At 10 p.m., fireworks will also be set off over Wards Island for the 42nd Anniversary of Astoria's Indepedence Day, but New Jersey residents are unlikely to hear those.

In the past, residents along the Hudson River have asked officials for more of a heads up on the displays.

In November of 2021, New Yorkers reportedly filed complaints with city government after a round of fireworks caught them off guard. The display was eventually linked to a $1,250-per-ticket gala event at the Javits Center, with then-Mayor Bill de Blasio as the guest of honor.

And people were perturbed in 2021 when fireworks went off the day after the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Residents have said that unexpected fireworks have caused their dogs to run out and awakened babies. READ MORE: Fireworks? Why? NYC/NJ Twitter Lights Up With Questions Again
